Fantastic (award-winning) Decor, Food Poisoning
ReplyDeleteI went today - March 12, 2014 - with a Korean girlfriend (both of us are over forty btw) and my ten-year old daughter. My GF knew I'd love the industrial style and the steampunk-ish design, and I confess: I was so fixated on the gears, polished concrete table tops, 'Ghost' chairs juxtaposed with construction girders, commercial giant beakers filled with lightbulbs, and ancient tech... that I overlooked the 'hot young waiters' other bloggers have been smirking about.
We were there at lunch time and there was absolutely no queue: bottom floor had three or four couples, one family with a baby in highchair, a pair of well-groomed older women - while the top floor was almost empty - a four-top in one corner and a student couple making out in another. I am sorry to say that we experienced some difficulty in ordering - we were told we couldn't order the salad I wanted, or any salad, despite seeing large salad bowls clearly just served to other tables. Likewise, no bread or side dishes were 'available.'
I am also sorrier to say that the Bacon Cheese Pasta and Cheese Risotto we wound up with were not only extremely greasy with cheese but - despite eating only half of our respective dishes - made us all nastily ill a couple of hours later. As in - no, never mind the details. Just let's say that the food did not live up to the fantastic decor.
5 stars for atmosphere, 3 for service, and -1 for food.
